Imphal, March 07 2025:
Saying that the imposition of President's Rule (PR) in Manipur despite a clear majority in the Assembly highlights their shortcomings, MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, the newly appointed All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Manipur, has expressed confidence that the Congress party is well-prepared for the next Assembly elections.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan today, Sankar Ulaka continued that the Centre may have imposed PR as the previous State Government had failed to ensure safe passage of goods and people along the highways and maintain law and order.
Saying that the BJP has failed to form a stable Government in Manipur despite having a clean majority in the Assembly let alone restore normalcy, the Congress leader added that the party's own MLAs don't even trust each other.
Claiming that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been stoking the crisis in Manipur, Sankar Ulaka accused the Government of creating division among the people.
The Congress party has been monitoring the situation in Manipur and devised a strategy for the upcoming election.
Further stating that the Prime Minister has been maintaining a stoic silence on the Manipur crisis apart from not visiting the State, he added that the Congress, on the other hand, had raised a no confidence motion against the Government and started the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Manipur.
He also said that Rahul Gandhi had reached out to both the warring communities and heard their grievances.
Sankar Ulaka landed in Imphal yesterday and discussed the situation in the State with MPCC leaders and officer bearers.
He said that the Congress party will raise the Manipur issue again in the upcoming Parliament session which is set to commence from March 10 .
