Imphal, June 05 2025:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has urged the relevant authorities to compile a comprehensive report on the flood-affected population, update the status report, and make it publicly available.
COCOMI, in a statement, also called on the authorities to take measures to pump out water from areas that remain inundated despite the cessation of rainfall and the receding of river water levels.
Failure to drain the water on war footing would result in spoilage of vegetables and other goods and may cause disease outbreaks, it cautioned.
Saying that the Government should conduct a thorough field survey and provide adequate compensation to all flood victims including those staying at relatives' places to facilitate their rehabilitation, it urged the relevant authorities to be proactive in providing humanitarian aid to the flood victims.
The Committee said that its volunteers are prepared to assist the Government staff in relief efforts for flood-affected individuals.
Meanwhile, COCOMI said that they have distributed essential items, including mosquito coils, soaps, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, rice, potatoes, sugar, salt, onions, and more to over 1,500 flood victims who have been sheltering at relief camps since yesterday as part of its flood relief activity.
The Committee further said that they have provided supplies to 16 relief camps set up at Khurai, Kongba, Wangkhei and Pangei.
Additionally, the Committee has set up a free medical camp at Ima Nongmai Leima Laibung, providing medical care to flood victims staying in and around Khurai Sajor Leikai, it said.
Stating that the Committee has been collecting reports to provide relief items to people who they could not reach out as of yet, COCOMI appealed to all clubs and Meira Paibi Lups of affected places to contact them at 9863738741/9366813406/9612318445.Several areas, including Ayangpalli, Thongju, Bashikhong, and Kiyamgei, remain flooded, the Committee said, appealing to unaffected individuals, institutions, and organizations to extend their support to the flood-affected people.
