Imphal, June 01 2012:
Taking strong exception to the reported lapse caused to the construction of roads under PMGSY due to intrigue among the contractors, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, Francis Ngajokpa has warned of cancelling the work orders if the dispute among them continues to retard the progress of the construction work.
The RD & PR Minister was on a two-day inspection tour to Ukhrul district to oversee the construction of roads under PMGSY.
The minister, accompanied by Chingai AC MLA, Preshaw Shimray, Chief Engineer of Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency, N Babuchand and several concerned officials inspected the 16-kilo-metre long Rachai to Chingjaroi Christian village along the NH 150 .
Francis Ngajokpa admitted that construction of roads under PMGSY in Senapati district is not satisfactory though a little improvement is seen in Tamenglong and Chandel districts.
Though it is perceptible that construction work is in progress in Ukhrul district, it is very unfortunate for the people that construction work had to be ceased due to dispute among contractors which even took them to law Court, Francis said.
Stating that the cessation of construction work due to the scrap among contractors would not be tolerated, the RD & PR Minister warned of cancelling their contract if their mis-apprehension continues to effect the progress of the work.
He averred that he would, as a minister, confront any obstacle coming against the path to development of the public while seeking the cooperation of the public in the implementation of developmental works.
Urging the people to be honest, the minister said a monitoring team of the State and Central Governments is keeping close watch on them.
MLA Preshow Shimray said all development projects that come are meant only for the people and the public should extend cooperation in order to develop the area.
He assured the people of bringing development to the public on all possible fronts.
Taking serious note over the non-completion of road construction at some stretches of the road, Chief Engineer, N Babuchand conveyed that a strict instruction has been issued not to award further work order to some inefficient contractors in the later phase.
