Imphal, June 01 2012:
The Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) has demanded that the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in Manipur should go back to the hill districts and start operating from there and not from the state capital Imphal.
IDF, an organisation instrumental in bringing the state government to its knees in conducting the erstwhile defunct ADCs in Manipur hills two years ago, is now returning from its hibernation.
IDF founder Ngachonmi Chamroy, an articulate activist informed NNN today, "The main objective of the IDF is to evolve a system of governance based on indigenous democracy in the present context which best benefits the indigenous peoples living in Manipur" .
He then stated that IDF has been fighting for power bifurcation/decentralisation or devolution of power to the hill districts of Manipur.
Reiterating the demand of the IDF, Chamroy asks, "How can the government run away from carrying out its reponsibility?" .
"If the state government has an impression that there is threat perception on the ADC members then the former is failing its duty in implementing the laws," said Ngachonmi Chamroy who is a former law student.
Quoting a Judge of a court, Ngachonmi Chamroy said," If there is a threat perception to the MLAs in Imphal, will these legislators run to New Delhi?" .
Mention may be made that ADCs in Naga dominated districts are operating from Imphal as the United Naga Council boycott them.
