Contributions of Major Chongtha Mia recalled on his 114th death anniversary

The 114th death anniversary of Major Chongtha Mia was observed at Pheidabung Memorial Site located beside BT Park today organised by the Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War-1981 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak.
In today's event, members of the Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War-1891, family members of Major Chongtha Mia and members of CSOs paid homage and floral tributes to the photo of Major Chongtha Mia.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the observation of death anniversary, a member of Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War-1891 said that Major Chongtha Mia was one of the valiant warriors of the State who fought selflessly for his motherland during the Anglo-Manipuri War which is one of the major events in the history of Manipur.

Stating that the valiant warriors of Manipur fought fearlessly against the British empire who was then considered as an indomitable empire, he maintained that today's generation should be grateful to them.
He also appealed to all to follow the footsteps of the heroic forefathers.
Expressing regret that such a heroic son of the land was not given the due respect owing to the ignorance of his contributions by the Government and the people for around 130 years, he said that it is high time to uphold him and his contributions with utmost regard.
He went on to state that people came to know of Major Chongtha Mia after the Justice Committee traced his roots.
He also maintained that many heroic warriors of the Anglo-Manipuri War were exiled in the jail at Andaman and Nicobar island and breathed their last there.
Today's death anniversary was planned to hold in a grand way at Narayan Khamar of Tripura but owing to the restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic, the event has been held at Pheidabung Memorial Site instead, he added.
