Imphal, January 17 2022:
Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) will hold yearlong celebration of Manipur Statehood Day from January 31 this year.
In a statement released to media houses, CPI-MSC secretary L Sotinkumar stated that after over 2000 years of existing as an independent sovereign kingdom, Manipur was annexed to India and became a district of Assam.
Unable to accept this status, the communist party which was born out of the, underground movement, elevated Manipur to the level of a union territory.
After a tumultuous struggle by the party workers along with other like-minded political parties, Manipur attained statehood on January 21, 1972 .
CPI will work hard to ensure Manipur is re-included in the Special Status Category and the people are provided with special economic packages, it assured.
Thus, CPI-MSC will be celebrating the 50th Manipur Statehood Day at Irawat Bhawan, with strict adherence to the Covid-19 SOP issued by the government.
