Iconic Events Week kicks off

The Department of Tourism has kicked off the 7-day long 'Iconic Events Week' celebration at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Imphal East today.
It may be noted that the Iconic Events Week has been flagged off as a part of 'Parakram Diwas', which will be observed on January 23 across India in commemoration of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's 125th birth anniversary.
The event was graced by Dr Rajesh Kumar, Chief Secretary Manipur as the chief guest, W Ibohal (MCS), Director, Dept of Tourism as guest of honour and PK Jha, Commissioner, Dept of Tourism as the president.
Floral tributes were paid to a picture of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose during the event.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Rajesh Kumar stated that the INA Memorial Complex and INA headquarters being located in the State is a point of pride for the people of Manipur.
He also mentioned initiatives taken up by the Govt to improve tourism in the State such as Loktak Lake Front which is currently being developed.
Dr Kumar added that a Nation can be truly independent only when its citizens have the facilities to maintain proper health, nutrition and employment.
Further, he lauded Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and his courage for leaving a job in the Indian Civil Service to travel around the country and establish the Indian National Army.
Stating that Manipur, which has over 35 different tribes, also produced many courageous freedom fighters, he urged the youth to not be involved in discriminatory practices and instead be motivated by peace.
