Moirang, March 28 2025:
Former rebel leader RK Meghen has stated that the Meetei people, though peace-loving, will not tolerate illegal immigrants dictating terms in Manipur.
He made the statement at the unveiling ceremony of a statue honoring Khumanthem Kenedy, a village volunteer, held at Wangoo Laingoubi Awang Leikai today.
At the ceremony, he continued that the emergence of many young people willing to protect Manipur, despite the violent attacks by armed Kuki militants from Myanmar, proves that there's no shortage of patriots in the State.
Claiming that illegal Kuki immigrants who came after 1949 have been causing tension among the communities living together in Manipur, he added that a unity among the people is indispensable to defeat any attempt to break Manipur.
On proposed delimitation, he warned that some areas of the valley districts might be incorrectly merged with the hill constituencies if the illegal immigrants living in unauthorized villages are not evicted first.
He also said that delimitation has to be done after identifying who the indigenous and non indigenous people are to ensure fair representation.
