Senapati, March 24 2025:
The Purul Youth & Students' Organization (PYSO) and the Koide Youth & Students' Organization (KYSO), has expressed deep concern and raised their voices against the continuous negligence in the maintenance of the Maram-Purul Atongba Road that was constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme.
The students organisations alleged that despite repeated complaints and appeals, the contractor and the concerned authorities have failed to address the deteriorating condition of the road till date, leaving the public to endure daily hardships and safety risks, especially during the rainy season when the road becomes nearly impassable.
The PMGSY project (Package Number: MN06294, Phase-XI) was initiated with the construction of the 22-km Maram-Purul Atongba Road, which commenced on August 2, 2019 and was completed on Feb 1, 2021 .
The Students' organisations claimed that since date no maintenance work has been carried out, and the road has fallen into a State of disrepair, riddled with potholes, erosion, and uneven surfaces.
"The issue was brought to light by the Maram-Phaibung Road Development Association on different occasions in the past but no action was taken up, followed by a joint formal complaint by the Purul Youth & Students' Organization (PYSO) and Koide Youth & Students' Organization (KYSO) on August 6, 2024 .
Despite these efforts, no corrective action has been taken to date and the public's frustration is mounting as their pleas for accountability and action continue to be ignored," stated the Students' bodies.
Stating that the poor condition of the road has led to frequent accidents and injuries, endangering lives and increased transportation costs due to vehicle damage, the Students' bodies have demanded for immediate intervention to carry out the long-overdue repairs and ensure that the contractor fulfills their maintenance obligations under PMGSY guidelines.
