Imphal, September 21 2025:
Accusing the Government of focusing on holding the Sangai Festival instead of addressing Manipur's ongoing crisis, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has cautioned that a public unrest could erupt if the situation worsens.
UCM along with the people offered "Tarpan" (Aroiba Langbar, Heitha Leithaba) to the 18 martyrs of the June 18, 2001 uprising at the Kekrupat memorial site today.
Addressing the gathering, UCM president YK Dhiren claimed that President's Rule has been in place in Manipur for over seven months, yet no concrete actions have been taken to identify and address the root cause of the conflict so far.
He criticized the Governor's administration for prioritizing festival celebrations over tackling the ongoing crisis and the plight of tens of thousands of internally displaced people (IDPs) in Manipur, calling it regrettable.
Dhiren expressed disappointment, stating that focusing on festivals during such a crisis is unfortunate for the people.
Continuing that the Government must prioritize resolving the crisis, the UCM president warned that ignoring the plight of the people and focusing on festivals could lead to a public uprising.
Claiming that the Government of India (GoI) has been pursuing a divide and rule policy in Manipur, Dhiren emphasized that a collective effort from the people of Manipur is essential to safeguard the State's unity and integrity.
He also claimed that the GoI has been overlooking the violent campaign by Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meeteis.
