Imphal, April 18 2026:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has condemned the calculated attacks on Naga villages, as well as the brutal ambush and killing of two Naga civilians along National Highway 202, near TM Kasom village, 'carried out by Kuki militants' .
In a press release, the council described the 'cowardly act of violence' against innocent civilians as reprehensible and an affront to human dignity.
Such deliberate targeting of Naga civilians on a public highway has shattered the very principles of peace, security, and coexistence that the Nagas have strived to uphold for decades, the UNC said.
Saying that the ambush was a direct challenge to the Naga people, it added that such unprovoked bloodshed cannot and will not be tolerated as it threatens the safety of all who travel on the road.
"It represents an act of outrageous aggression on our homeland," the UNC stated.
Demanding immediate justice, the council demanded that the case be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for swift identification, arrest, and prosecution of all perpetrators and accomplices involved in the attack.
It also called for decisive action from law enforcement and Government authorities to prevent further violence along NH-202 and other vulnerable routes, while ensuring the security of Naga citizens and all travellers, so that no community is left living in fear of targeted ambushes.
The council also raised concerns about the inactivity of the security forces deployed in the area, noting that the incident occurred just 1.5 Km from an Indian Army outpost.
The handling of security by both the State and Central Governments in relation to NH-202 is questionable, it said.
The UNC also called on all Naga tribes, villages, and organisations to unite in this time of crisis and stand together as one people.
In the face of external aggression targeting the Naga people, the council reaffirmed the Naga people's right to defend themselves and protect their homes and lives.
The UNC emphasised that the attack on NH-202 was not an isolated incident but a direct challenge to the collective security and dignity of the Naga people.
The council also mourned the loss of the two lives and offered its 'sincere' condolences to the bereaved families.
The UNC assured that it will continue to pursue justice.
