All set for celebrate Luira Phanit for four days

Ukhrul/Hunphun is all set up to celebrate "Luira Phanit" for four consecutive days beginning from February 15 with bonhomie and joviality at KK Leishi-Phanit ground, Hunphun.
The seed sowing festival of Tangkhuls in particular and Nagas in general is celebrated every year with traditional rituals and dances at the village level in the month of February.
But this time, Luira Phanit celebration is set to coincide with the Lui-Ngai-Ni, the combined seed sowing festival of the Naga community, which falls on February 15 and is celebrated at the State level.
Preparations are also underway for the celebration of Lui-Ngai-Ni at Tangkhul Naga Long Ground, Wino Bazar, Ukhrul generating an atmosphere of festivity in the entire hill town.
Evoking the theme of �Never and ever', Luira Phanit celebration this time will be organised under the aegis of United Hunphun Phu ngcham Youth Front (UHPYF), comprising all the 23 localities of Ukhrul town.
Talking to The Sangai Express, president of UHPYF Ramyo Mark Chiphang explained that the essence of the celebration is to seek the blessing of the Almighty for bumper harvest.
He informed that the opening function of the celebration will be graced by the headman of Hunphun/Ukhrul HA Wungrampan on the first day, whereas Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul N Ashok Kumar; SDO Ukhrul Rajen Vishal, Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah and AC (Ukhrul) Arm-strong Pame respectively on subsequent days of the celebration as chief guest.
During the celebration women married to men of other villages, tribes or community would be invited to the festival, he informed.
Among other programmes, this year's celebration would also witnessed Tug of War, wrestling, Laa-Khanganui, Raikhangathat, cultural folk dance, solo, choreography, cultural fashion parade, and declamation and beauty contest 'Miss Luira 2011'on February 18 night.
Twenty-nine contestants would be vying for the a coveted title of Miss Luira, 2011.
