Cultural dance competition held at Andro

A cultural dance competition for students was successfully conducted today at Andro Khunou Leikai Lampak, Imphal East district on the theme, "Youth, The Power of Change, The Hope of Tomorrow" .
The event was organised by Chingakham Radhapyari from Andro with the aim to preserve and promote the cultural dances of the State.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Thounaojam Shyamkumar, MLA, Andro Assembly Constituency; Sh Chandra Meitei, khullakpa, Andro Khul; Ph Gopal Singh, elder of Andro Khunou Leikai; and Dr Urmika Maibam, faculty, Department of Dance, Manipur University of Culture and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Shyamkumar said that Manipur is best introduced to the world through its rich culture and traditions, particularly its classical &, folk dances, vibrant handloom and handicraft products, martial arts like Thang-Ta, and unique festivals.
He continued that the State is also a powerhouse in modem sports, with many of its athletes achieving national and international acclaim.
He also expressed concern over the degradation of culture & tradition which have led to the erosion of traditional etiquettes and social manners in the society.
"Promoting Manipuri culture cannot be accomplished by a handfill of people.
Everyone should become an advocate for the indigenous culture and elders and parents should also encourage their wards when they express any interest in art and culture", he added.
The MLA further called for collective effort to safeguard and promote the indigenous culture and traditions of the State so that its legacy will be carried forth to coming generations for a strong and developed society.
As part of the event, different dance groups-enthralled the crowd with performances of Mao Jagoi, Khamba Thoibi Jagoi, Leima Jagoi, Thougal Jagoi, etc.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the cultural dance competition - Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (1st position), Bal Bidya Mandir (2nd position).
Unified Brothers' English School (3rd position) and Brighter Public School (4th position) .
