Imphal, September 07 2025:
Responding to "reports" about the proposed relocation of "Thingsat camp" of 'unlawful Kuki militant groups' to Kharam Vaiphei village in the heart of Naga ancestral land, the Foothill Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has issued a warning saying that confrontations between the Kuki and Naga communities cannot be ruled.
In a statement, FNCC made it clear that in such a scenario, the road passing through Naga ancestral land, presently used by the Kuki community as their lifeline between Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, will be completely sealed.
Furthermore, every illegal Kuki village established within their jurisdiction without the consent of indigenous Naga landowners will be evicted without hesitation, it added.
It expressed deep shock and terrible frustration over the proposed shifting of the camp to Kharam Vaiphei village under Kangchup PS, Kangpokpi which will allegedly be renamed as "Lhangkichoi" camp.
In no uncertain terms, FNCC has declared that "if the so-called Thingsat camp is established in the Kharam Vaiphei (Naga ancestral territory), there will inevitably be confrontations between the Kuki and Naga communities.
For any such unfortunate outcome, the Govt of Manipur shall bear full responsibility" .
FNCC termed the development as not only an insult to FNCC but a total undermining of the rights of the Naga people in general.
Recalling that the Government of Manipur had pledged to respect the sentiments of the Naga communities in the foothills while reviewing the SoO agreement, it pointed out that barely a month has passed since the assurance was made and FNCC had agreed to withdraw their agitation in good faith.
However, upon being confronted with "alarming reports" that Kuki militant groups are to be provided a safe haven in their ancestral land, FNCC has declared that if the Government disregards their rights and concerns, then under no circumstances will the road remain open to the Kuki community.
"We will no longer tolerate the deception of Kuki refugees and their militants misusing our ancestral land for drug trafficking and all forms of illegal smuggling.
Through such illicit trade, unimaginable wealth has been amassed and turned against the indigenous Naga people in the foothill areas", asserted the FNCC .
