Outstanding craftspersons awarded

Distribution function of award to outstanding craftspersons and subsidies under the Assistance to Individual artisans for the year 2011-12 was held today at the Food Processing Training Hall of DIC Imphal East, Porompat.
Altogether, 10 craftspersons were conferred the State Award that carries Rs 20,000 each, 12 craftspersons were presented Merit Award that carries Rs 8,000 each and 19 craftsmen were conferred the Inspiration Award carrying Rs 5000 each.
The occasion was graced by Commerce and Industries, Sericulture and VAH Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries), O Nabakishore and Director of C & I, V Tualthang as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said the State has talented and skilled craftspersons and the State is placed third in the production of handicrafts at the national level while adding that the awards were given to crafspersons as a gesture to motivate and encourage them.
Exhorting the craftspersons to give more effort in their endeavour, the Minister said the department has been trying to increase the cash incentive.
Stressing on the need to produce more quality products by using new technologies available with them in the backdrop of LEP, Govindas said the State Government has been continously putting efforts for the setting up of Integrated Check Post in the State.
Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries, O Naba-kishore also encouraged craftspersons to produce more quality local handicraft products while also seeking the cooperation of other stake holders.
