Imphal, May 26 2026:
Two sit-in demonstrations at Samurou Awang Leikai Community Hall and Santhel Bazar today gave a new push to the campaign of 5 CSOs urging communities to unite for peace and intensify stir against terrorism.
The 5 CSOs include the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Centre for Organisation Research and Education (COHR), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF).
The demonstration at Santhel Bazar was organised and attended by members of Santhel United Development Committee (SUDC) and Jamiatul Ulama Santhel.
The sit-in at Samurou Awang Leikai Community Hall was organised by Samurou Meira Paibi and AMALCO, an apex body of local clubs.
During the sit-in demonstrations, the protesters urged the Government to "end proxy war, stop terrorism, remove Central security forces, and secure the release of all hostages taken on May 13" .
In a statement released after the demonstrations, the five civil society organisations accused the Government of India of implementing divisive policies.
The civil bodies said the militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) and non SoO groups have become tools to divide and foment enmity among communities.
They said communal politics has been encouraged to further divide the people and communities based on ethnicity.
Even when the State is facing external aggression, the Government has not taken any decisive action against the militants.
A Government which is unable to exercise its power is a "Government of the slaves", the 5 CSOs said.
"As the Government is unable to protect its border and people, the people must therefore unite and decide their own future." In the face of the crises facing Manipur, the only way forward remains coexistence.
Only peaceful coexistence can bring about peace and normalcy, the CSOs said, calling on communities to unite.
The Government must also make known its stand clear on the issues facing the State.
It must act decisively to end the crises and bring peace, the 5 CSOs said.
