Imphal, May 16 2026:
The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has called for a mutual understanding between the Thadou and Naga communities so that innocent Thadous are not endangered because of misinformation or mistaken identity.
Due to the continuing escalation of tensions in Manipur, the lives of many innocent Thadous remain increasingly at risk because of misidentification.
This danger is further aggravated by false claims and propaganda spread by certain Kuki groups and individuals portraying Thadous as part of, or subordinate to, the Kuki and its political agenda, TIM said in a statement.
Stating that the Thadou community has been among the worst victims of Kuki supremacy, militant domination, political ideology, and pseudo-nationalism, TIM has called upon other communities in Manipur to understand this reality clearly and objectively.
A mutual understanding between the Thadou and Meitei communities has already been meaningfully established through sincere efforts by leaders from both sides, founded on truth, mutual respect, trust, and confidence-building, it said.
TIM has also appealed to all concerned authorities, communities, individuals, and leaders to clearly distinguish between Kuki and Thadou.
Thadou is a distinct community and is neither Kuki nor aligned with Kuki political organisations or agendas, it asserted.
"In the same spirit, Thadou Inpi Manipur extends a sincere gesture of goodwill toward fostering mutual understanding between the Thadou and Naga communities, so that innocent Thadous are not endangered because of misinformation or mistaken identity" TIM said.
Any issue or misunderstanding relating to the recent killing of Thadou church leaders should be addressed in consultation with Thadou Inpi Manipur, the legitimate apex body of the Thadou community in Manipur, it said.
Protests, rallies, or similar activities carried out against the Naga or other communities should not be regarded as representing the genuine aspirations or collective will of the Thadou people.
Such actions are being driven through intimidation, coercion, and gun power in furtherance of the pseudo-Kuki movement, taking advantage of the prevailing weakness of law and order in the State, it said.
TIM has also urged all members of Thadou community to clearly identify themselves as Thadou, not Kuki.
It asserted that there is no such identity as "Thadou-Kuki" or "both Thadou and Kuki" .
The use or acceptance of such terms only creates confusion, misunderstanding, misidentification, and potential danger.
Urging all members of the Thadou community to formally register their Thadou membership online at thadou.com/register, TIM has appealed to civil society organisations and community bodies from any community who may wish to verify the Thadou identity or membership status of any individual to use the same platform for verification and reference.
