BJP leaders, workers join Congress in Nungba

In a significant political development ahead of the Assembly elections slated for 2027, a large number of BJP leaders and workers from Nungba area formally joined the Indian National Congress (INC) during a Block Level Congress Workers Conference-cum-Reception held at Nungba Common Ground on Thursday.
Organised by the Nungba Block Congress Committee, the event witnessed an estimated turnout of around 5,000 delegates from across the 54-Nungba Assembly Constituency, signalling renewed momentum for the Congress at the grassroots level.
The highlight of the event was the formal reception of a large number of BJP workers and several prominent leaders into the Congress fold.
The induction was facilitated in the presence of senior party leaders, including Gaikhangam Gangmei, Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member and former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, and Adai Phaomei, intending candidate for 54-Nungba Assembly Constituency and president of Tamenglong and Noney District Congress Committee.
The programme began with an opening prayer by Gaiphurei Panmei, Associate Pastor of Luangba Baptist Church, followed by a welcome and keynote address from Wilson Gangmei, vice president of Tamenglong DCC.
A special prayer for the intending candidate was led by Lungchui Rongmei, former Pastor of Tajeikaiphun Baptist Church.
Addressing the gathering, newly inducted members expressed confidence that joining the Congress would ensure "long-lasting future for all-round development" in the region.
In his speech, Adai Phaomei extended gratitude to the new members and attendees, acknowledging the efforts of party workers in organising the event.
He appealed for unity among party ranks and sought continued support for his political journey.
Gaikhangam also thanked the gathering for their support and shared insights from his tenure as an MLA, urging people to extend their support to the Congress and its intending candidate in the upcoming elections.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Kachamthai Dangmei, president of Nungba Block Congress Committee, followed by a closing prayer by Pastor Graceson Kamei of SDA Church, Nungba.
Cultural performances by Congress mahila groups, including traditional dances and ho-hoing, added vibrancy to the gathering.
Other prominent leaders present included Alar Thoitak, convenor.
Steering Committee; John Pamei, general secretary, MPCC; Thuijingam Gangmei, secretary, Nungba Block Congress Committee and Zino Kamei, former vice-chairman of the Autonomous District Council, Tamenglong.
