Imphal, September 13 2025:
Intermittent rainfall from yesterday battered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur today.
The venue at Kangla where the PM was to address a public meeting was inundated with water, prompting the State Fire Service to use motor pumps to drain the water.
People who came to attend the Prime Minister's address were seen cleaning their feet of dirt in the sacred pond and the Kanglapat.
While the rain dampened the venue, the Prime Minister did address the people before leaving Imphal for Guwahati.
Like in the Kangla, several places including major roads in Imphal were waterlogged causing inconvenience to locals and disturbing traffic.
Kakwa, Pishum, Kwakeithel Tiddim road, Konnung Mamang, Babupara and several other locations experienced severe waterlogging.
Singjamei to Kakwa road was completely submerged under water disrupting normal traffic movement.
Several residences in the area were also affected.
Locals said the stretch from Singjamei to Kakwa is prone to waterlogging "everytime it rains a little".
The residents have appealed to the authorities concerned to take up appropriate measures including declogging of the drainage systems to resolve the frequent waterlogging issue.
While waterlogging is an issue in the area, what has made the situation worse is the presence of huge potholes, said the driver of a passenger vehicle.
"Since the road has been completely submerged under the water, people driving vehicles are unable to see the large potholes.
As a result, many accidents have occurred," said the driver.
Frequent waterlogging may have damaged the road, but the authorities concerned should take steps to improve the roads and resolve the waterlogging issue, he added.
