Dead body of man recovered

Ukhrul, December 12 2023:
Ukhrul police retrieved the body of a man from near the crematorium site of Konghang Ngayi on the eastern side of Ukhrul Town.
Konghang Ngayi is about 2 km away from the Ukhrul Town market.
The deceased has been identified as Rajen Konsam (60), s/o Chaoba Konsam of Leitanpokpi Pukhao, Imphal East and he had been staying at a rented house in Khayiashat, Ukhrul.
It is reported that the person had been living in Ukhrul for more than 25 years as a construction worker.
He was also a member of Meitei Baptist Church, Ukhrul Town.
The cremation site is being managed by Hindu Samay of Ukhrul Town.
Reportedly, there is a wound on the left chest of the deceased caused by an explosion.
Ukhrul police have registered a case and investigation is underway.
According to police, the person might have died in an accidental bomb explosion and there is no suspicion of foul play.
The police discovered a mobile phone, five inch nail and a lighter from the deceased.
An improvised gelatin stick wrapped with clothes was found near the body.
The police have sanitised the whole crematorium site.
Later, at around 2.30 pm, a mobile forensic team from Imphal arrived at the spot and collected samples for forensic tests after examining the body.
Reportedly, people staying nearby heard a bomb explosion at around 7 pm yesterday.
The body will be taken to Imphal tomorrow for an autopsy before handing over the same to his family.
