Imphal, September 08 2025:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has stated that there is no reason to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur on September 13, criticizing his silence on protecting indigenous people amid the crisis that began on May 3, 2023 .
Today, the UCM offered tributes to the martyrs of the Great June 18 Uprising at Kekrupat on the first day of the Langban Leithaba (Tarpon) observance.
Speaking at the event, UCM president YK Dhiren stated that they have nothing to say to the Prime Minister, who has remained silent all this time despite the severity of the violence in Manipur, which has led to the displacement of tens of thousands and numerous deaths.
He further said that the UCM expects nothing from the Prime Minister's visit, except to see whether he considers Manipur a part of India.
There is no reason for the UCM to meet or say anything to the Prime Minister, Dhiren said.
He also said there is nothing to expect from politicians who act and speak according to the directives of their Central leadership.
Alleging that the Govern ment of India has been plotting to divide Manipur for decades, he claimed that successive Indian Governments have never treated Manipur as an integral part: of the country.
These elected MLAs, who passed a resolution in the Assembly to abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact did not object when the Centre extended the agreement, and this exposed their lack of genuine commitment to the cause, he charged.
Claiming that the Government of India has been driving a wedge to destabilize the State, he said that the event of June 18, 2001 was a response to a scheme that threatened the unity and integrity of Manipur.
He said that the UCM does not oppose any community's movement to protect their identity and territory, but added that resorting to actions like a blockade during such a troubled time is deeply discouraging, especially given that the people are already suffering from ongoing violence, displacement, and hardship.
Further stating that the territorial integrity of Manipur is under constant threat, he said that the people of Manipur must stand united against the extension of the SoO pact with Kuki armed groups, who are involved in killing and targeting indigenous Meiteis.
Instead of resolving the crisis, the GoI, however, shielded Kuki militant groups by extending the SoO pact, he asserted.
