Suspected activists of UKLF has beaten up a 55-year old man black and blue after he was taken away in a car from Sakhomphai under Sugunu police station last night.
Khaidem Biramani (53) of Sugunu Awang Leikai has been admitted at RIMS Hospital and black allegedly while he was walking with two others villagers at the village road where militants banned movement at the night time last night at about 9.30 pm.
Seriously wounded Biramani reached Imphal late last night and admitted at RIMS Hospital with various bruise marks all over the body.
His condition was serious but stable, hospital source said.
Wife of injured Birmani, Bimola said that the incident of beaten up of her husband took place at about 9.30 pm last night on his way back from Sugnu community health centre where one of his daughter in-law was admitted for delivery case.
Birmani who came back with three of his relatives came back from the hospital intercepted with some armed activists in combat dress identified themselves as cadres of UKLF stopped them.
Charging them of activists of a valley based underground group, the armed miscreants put off the lantern in the hand of Birmani by hitting with a stick.
When they started threatening them, other three accomplices of Birmani run away towards the paddy field for their own safety.
But, Birmani was overpowered by them and took away to a Santro car and drove towards Sakhophai village where a camp of the 21 Assam Rifles also located.
Birmani was charged of being an underground and tortured him there by beating with blunt weapons.
It was when the three escaping persons alarmed on the incident, womenfolk of the village immediately rose up and lodged complaint with the Sugnu police station.
Police was not ready to rush to spot to rescue Birmani citing that they have no enough manpower as most of them have been called out for deploying at Mao gate.
Helpless womenfolk proceeded to the place where Birmani was taken away at their own risked where he was found with badly injure.
After holding talk, the undergrounds asked the womenfolk to take away him who could not walk alone due to the excessive torture.
The womenfolk left Birmani behind ordering the underground to deliver him to his home.
Later, three tribal women carried badly injured Birmani on a rickshaw upto the hospital at Sugnu and they tried to leave the place hurriedly on seeing large number of people gathering there but they were came confined to release later.
Decrying the incident of beating innocent villager, womenfolk staged a sit-in protest at Sugnu which was followed by a protest rally calling the undergrounds not to repeat such kind of inhumane act towards the villagers, reports said.
