The World Red Cross Day was observed today by the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State at its office at MG Avenue.
The day, under the theme "Urbanization and its Impact on communities" is celebrated worldwide in recognition of the immense humanitarian contribution of Henri Durant, the founder of the Red Cross movement, born in Geneva in 1828, recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
Offering of floral tribute to the photograph of the immense humanitarian marked the observation function of the state chapter of the Indian Red Cross Society.
Speaking on the occasion, treasurer of the Red Cross Society, Manipur, Narendra Ningomba said elaborately talked on the objective of the society at time of natural calamities like earthquake, flood etc.
part from extending assistant to the sufferers of wars, both soldiers and civilians.
He also said that those individuals who could extend sincere help to others suffering leaving behind his own sake gets the fruit of being born as human being.
He also announced that around 600 volunteers of the society will take various works to keep the Imphal city clean in consultation with the authority of the town planning and help in cleaning the city taken up by the Imphal Municipality.
In connection with the observance of the day, the Indian Red Cross Society Manipur will also organised a blood donation camp on next Monday, he announced appealing people to donate blood on the occasion.
