Imphal, November 05 2019: With the deadline it set for the State Government already expi-red, the COCOMI has announced that different modes of fresh civil protest movement would be carried out across the State from tomorrow till Saturday.

Speaking to media persons at the Kwakeithel office of AIMS this evening, COCOMI coordinator Sunil Karam reminded that the State Government was asked to ascertain and disclose the terms of agree- ment reached between the Government of India, NSCN-IM and NNPGs on October 31 by November 4 .

Notably, a team of all political parties including Chief Minister N Biren met Central leaders before October 31 .

As the State Government has failed to ascertain the terms of agreement reached on October 31, COCOMI has resolved to undertake different modes of civil protest movement, Sunil said.

He appealed to all the people to continue with the ongoing alert protest demonstrations.

In addition to the ongoing alert sit-ins, torch rallies would be staged between 8 pm and 9 pm of November 6 and 7, Sunil said.

He appealed to all the people to take out protest rallies extensively in their respective localities.

Human chains would be formed extensively and slogans would be shouted at all localities together with educational institutes and private establishments on November 8 and 9, he continued.

Conveying Chief Minister N Biren's assurance that a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly would be convened soon to deliberate on the situation arising out of the Naga peace talks, the COCOMI coordinator said that the special Assembly session should not be delayed under any circumstances and all the 60 MLAs should take part in the session.

Moreover, the 40 ruling MLAs should shoulder greater responsibility and take the case of Manipur to the Prime Minister's Office, he demanded.

The COCOMI coordinator then appealed to one and all not to do anything which may divert public attention away from the critical issue besieging the State.

MANITEX is not something more important than the Naga solution and its possible negative impacts on Manipur, he asserted.

If possible, MANITEX 2019 must be cut short.

If the Manipur Sangai Festival 2019 should be celebrated under a peaceful atmosphere, the terms of agreement reached at the October 31 meeting should be disclosed to public otherwise the festival must be postponed, Sunil Karam said.

COCOMI assistant coordinator Ph Nando Luwang noted that a meeting of the ruling legislators was held yesterday to discuss the situation arising out of the Naga peace talks but out of the 40 ruling MLAs, 15 stayed away from the meeting.

The absentee MLAs must come out with convincing clarifications as to why they could not attend the crucial meeting otherwise it would be assumed that they do not support but rather oppose the ongoing mass civil movements, Nando said.

Jeetendra Ningomba, another assistant coordinator, condemned the bomb blast at Thangal Keithel this morning which left five police personnel and one civilian injured.

It appeared that the bomb attack was planned to divert the ongoing mass civil movements away from its intended direction, he said.

He also appealed to all the people not to stage any kind of protest demonstration beyond the guideline set by COCOMI which may offend any community.
