With security rider, respondents dare to fight case at CCpur

Imphal, December 02 2023: Even as a Court case has been filed at Churachandpur against five Meeteis occupying important positions in connection with the violence in Manipur, the respondents have said that they are ready to fight the case at the hill district itself if the Government can take up due security arrangements.

The case was filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Churachand-pur by one Tuanmuanson Vualnam (34), a resident of Churachandpur against Head of Department of Law, Manipur University Dr Yumnam Premananda Singh; retired Session Judge Aribam Noutuneshwari Devi; Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) president Th Manihar, vice president BM Yaima and general secretary A Punil Kumar.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Citizens For Justice Manipur (CFJM) at Manipur Press Club in connection with the Court case today, Noutuneshwari and Dr Premananda said that the Court case was filed against them for speaking at a public convention organised by FOCS on "Present Situation in Manipur '' at Palace Compound on July 30 .

Saying that all five of them were summoned by the CJM Churachandpur to appear before the Court by November 9, they said that they, however, received the summon only on November 21 .

Continuing that the Court may summon them again as the deadline of the previous order had expired, they appealed to the Government to provide them adequate security in case the Court summons them again.

They further said that they are ready to face the Court case at Churachandpur itself if the Government can ensure their safety.

Dr Premananda contended that he didn't say a single word which is against the law in the convention.

Further stating that what he spoke was only about international humanitarian law, Dr Premananda said that the entire event was recorded too.

Saying that he has got the support of people in the legal fraternity to fight the case , he added that people with vested interest filing a Court case after taking out only a portion of the entire speech is not right.

Noutuneshwari also said that she is ready to fight the Court case and asked the Government to take up adequate security arrangements for their safety.

She said that she condemns the brutal assault of four Meeteis by suspected Kukis at New Delhi yesterday.

CFJM president Khaidem Mani spoke about the sequence of violence taking place in Manipur while urging the Government to take action against the Kuki legislators who endorse the demand of separate administration for Kuki-Zo people.

Mani also urged the Government to take up actions against those who repeatedly desecrated Mount Thangjing.
