Imphal, May 26 2026:
Representatives of the Manipur Truck Owners' Welfare Association met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at his Secretariat today.
During the meeting, the representatives of the association led by its president, Hijam Ranjit urged the Chief Minister to take steps to open highways and repair some damaged sections of the NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road).
About the meeting, the Chief Minister, on Facebook said, "Called on by representatives of the Manipur Truck Owners' Welfare Association, led by Shri H Ranjit Singh at the Secretariat today.
We discussed the law and order situation on the National Highways and the movement of goods trucks.
The Government is committed to ensuring the safe and smooth movement of vehicles and keeping the National Highways free from all hindrances" .
Speaking to this paper, Hijam Ranjit said the association urged the Chief Minister to intervene and open the NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) and also repair sections of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) which have been causing difficulties to vehicles plying the road.
Since the Imphal-Dimapur road has remained closed due to a shutdown imposed by civil bodies since May 13, vehicles are now using the NH-37, Imphal-Jiribam road, Ranjit said.
During the meeting today, Ranjit said, the Chief Minister was urged to intervene and instruct the NHIDCL to repair sections of the NH-37 including the diversion road at Nungdolan and the stretch near Barak Bridge.
These damaged sections of the road are in pathetic conditions which have deteriorated further due to rain, Ranjit said.
Repairing the damaged sections of the road will ease movement of goods carrying trucks and passenger vehicles, he added.
The shutdown, imposed by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), in all Kuki inhabited areas since May 13 has affected vehicular movement along highways.
The shutdown was imposed after the two ambush which killed 4 civilians (three Thadou Chruch leaders and one Chiru man in separate incidents) and abduction of civilians on May 13 .
