NESO flags lapses in governance

The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has stated that the continued failure to restore peace and normalcy by the Government in Manipur reflects a deeply concerning lapses in governance and responsibility.
Expressing concerns over the recurring cycle of violence and bloodshed that continues to plague Manipur, the organisation, in a press note, stated that the persistence of such tragic incidents, wherein innocent lives are lost and the very fabric of peaceful coexistence is being relentlessly eroded is disturbing.
These repeated acts of violence against unarmed civilians represents grave humanitarian concern that strikes at the core of human dignity, security and the fundamental right to live in peace, it said.
Saying that the ongoing unrest has inflicted immeasurable suffering upon countless families and communities, leaving behind a trail of grief, fear and uncertainty, NESO extended its 'heartfelt' condolences to all families who have lost their loved ones in the prolonged conflict in Manipur.
NESO also stated that it stands in unwavering solidarity with every victim affected by this tragic situation.
Questioning the inability of the State and Central authorities to effectively intervene and bring an end to the crisis in Manipur, the organisation stated that the continued failure to restore peace and normalcy reflects a deeply concerning lapses in governance and responsibility.
NESO called for immediate, fair and transparent intervention by the authorities to halt further escalation of violence.
It is imperative that justice is delivered without delay, NESO said and added that those responsible for perpetuating a cycle of heinous acts in Manipur must be identified, held accountable, and booked in accordance with the law to restore public confidence.
NESO also appealed to all communities and stakeholders to exercise restraint, uphold the values of humanity, and commit themselves to the path of peace.
Violence can never be a solution; only dialogue and mutual respect aimed at addressing the underlying issues and fostering long-term reconciliation can pave the way for lasting peace, it said.
NESO also stated that restoration of peace in Manipur is not only a regional necessity but a moral imperative.
