Stranded drivers provided relief

Imphal, May 17 2026:
Around 300 trucks including many carrying essential items have been stranded along NH-2 at Tadubi, Mao, Maram and T Khullen areas in Senapati district amid the total shutdown imposed by Kuki Inpi Manipur on National Highways.
Stranded and running low on supplies, the drivers and handymen have urged the Government to take immediate steps to open the Highways and provide them essential supplies for immediate relief.
Today, members of the Manipur Drivers Association, North East Federation of Trade Union, Senapati District Truck Owners Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union provided rice, grain, edible oil, onions, potatoes, salt and other daily use items to the stranded truckers.
Senapati District Truck Owners Association's vice president, Hingba John, said the material assistance was provided considering the hardships the stranded drivers and handymen are facing.
The loaded trucks stranded in Senapati include many carrying essential items.
Prolonged closure of the highways will not only make the drivers suffer but the whole of Manipur, Hingba said.
He urged the Government to provide immediate relief to the stranded truckers and open the highways.
