Imphal, August 12 2025:
Over 200 vehicles coming from Jiribam have been stranded for six days - between Oinamlong and Sibilong due to pathetic condition of the Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH 37) specially along the 20 km stretch from Oinamlong to Kambiron.
It is worth noting that the Imphal to Dimapur Road (NH-2) has remained cut off at Phesama in Nagaland since June 1 .
Aside from 6-wheelers, as heavier vehicles could not ply along this route, they were diverted to the Imphal-Jiribam Road significantly increasing its traffic volume.
The two National Highways have served as vital lifelines for the people of Manipur.
When one of them remained cut off, the other was used to bring in essential commodities necessary for daily life.
However, the deplorable condition of NH-37 from Oinamlong to Kambiron stands to pose significant hardships for the people.

Speaking to The Sangai Express in this connection, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union (AMRTDMWU) general secretary Maimom Anil said that Ganpati Company had secured the sub-contract from NHIDCL for the construction of a double-lane road from Oinamlong to Kambiron.
He alleged that large amounts of debris from hill cutting have collected along the road and posed safety risks to the drivers.
Fuel and LPG tankers are unable to drive up the slippery and inclined portions of the road.
Since Thursday (August 7) goods-laden trucks coming from Jiribam with escorts have been stranded at Oinamlong, Shanti Khunou, Nungdolan and Sibilong, he said.
What used to be a 2/3 day drive from Jiribam to Imphal is now taking more than 5 days as vehicles continue to remain stranded.
Yesterday a goods truck overturned at Kambiron as it tried to climb up a slippery incline.
He cautioned that if the drivers continue to face such challenges then the State may face a shortage of essential commodities and appealed to the Governor and Chief Secretary to address this issue and allow the drivers to ply along this route without such inconveniences.
Additionally, the AMRTDMWU general secretary has urged them to issue a strong directive to NHIDCL and Ganpati Company to work on and improve the condition of the affected road stretch at the earliest.
Members of Drivers Union Oinamlong and Khongsang continue to provide assistance to the stranded drivers.
