Kumbi protests Councillor�s arrest

Imphal, February 12, 2011:
A large number of womenfolk took out a protest rally at Kumbi today decrying the arrest of Kumbi Nagar Panchayat Ward No 1 Councillor Nongthombam Inaobi (41) by Kumbi police commandos.
On the other hand, a group christened Kumbi United Committee has been constituted in connection with the arrest and detention N Inaobi.
The committee has also resolved to launch various forms of intense agitation if the Councillor is not released by February 18. It is reported that N Inaobi of Kumbi Uchan Makhong was pulled up by a team of Kumbi police commandos from near his residential gate at about 7 am of February 8 on the charge of being a KCP activist.
However, the police team did not furnish any arrest memo at the time of Inaobi�s arrest.
Denouncing the arrest of Inaobi, a protest demonstration was staged at Kumbi Keithel today.
Later in the afternoon, a mass protest rally was taken out around Kumbi.
The protesters carried placards which read as, �Councillors are popular elected persons�, �Don�t violate rights of Councillors�, �Commandos should not sully democracy�, �What is the fault of Councillor Inaobi� etc.
They also shouted slogans demanding unconditional release of Inaobi.
On the other hand, a public meeting held at Kumbi resolved to form Kumbi United Committee in connection with the arrest of Inaobi.
The meeting further resolved to launch various forms of agitation in association with civil organisations of the State in case Councillor Inaobi is not released by February 18.
