Imphal, May 09 2026:
The All Manipur Christian Organisation, the apex Christian body in Manipur representing all communities and denominations, expressed grave concern over the recurring violence and firing between Kukis and Nagas in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
In a press note issued by its president L Simon Raomai, AMCO strongly condemned certain Central forces, particularly the Assam Rifles, for what it described as biased attitude and partiality during the acute crisis in strife-tom Manipur.
It claimed that the Assam Rifles, whose motto is "The Friends of The Hill People," has been playing a dangerous and questionable game in collusion with certain militant groups.
AMCO also said that the conduct of Assam Rifles is fishy and unfair.
Instead of working to resolve the crisis, the Assam Rifles appears to be adding fuel to the fire by siding with a particular party, AMCO claimed.
At this critical juncture, when people are longing for peace, justice, security, and reconciliation, any form of partiality or unequal treatment by security agencies only deepens doubts, mistrust, fear, and division among communities, it said.
AMCO further stated that the primary responsibility of the Central forces is to act impartially, uphold the Constitution, protect innocent civilians, and maintain law and order without bias or discrimination.
However, repeated allegations and growing public perceptions of selective action and unequal responses during the conflict have raised serious concerns among the affected people, it said.
Saying that security forces must remain neutral peacekeepers and confidence-builders in a democratic society, it added that any conduct that appears biased undermines public trust and weakens the hope for reconciliation and lasting peace in Manipur.
The citizens of the country as well as the denizens of the State deserve equal protection, dignity and justice regardless of their identity and ethnicity, AMCO said.
It noted that the ongoing violence in Manipur has already caused immense suffering, resulting in the loss of precious lives, destruction of homes and property, displacement of thousands, and deep emotional wounds.
This is the time for truth, justice, compassion, and responsible action from all stakeholders, it said.
AMCO appealed to all right thinking leaders and people of all communities in Manipur to come to senses that "we are neighbours, not enemies" .
"The devil, our common enemy in disguise, makes us fight and kill one another under his evil schemes.
At the end of the day, we will equally suffer tremendously and perish together", it said.
AMCO has also appealed to all warring parties to cease fire and stop the violence before it is too late.
"Enough is enough! Let us give peace a chance," AMCO further appealed.
