Lilong toll reaches five

The death toll in the Lilong firing incident has increased to five as one more person succumbed to bullet injuries on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Moulana Abdur Rajaque (38), s/o Late MD Zalaluddin of Lilong Dolaithabi.
He breathed his last at Raj Medicity at North AOC at around 5.30 am .
Meanwhile, representatives of the "JAC against the mass killing & brutal act at Lilong Chingjao" met Chief Minister N Biren Singh at CM's Secretariat in the evening.
After the meeting which lasted for about three hours, the JAC agreed to claim the bodies and hold the last rites for the deceased persons.
The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Lilong AC MLA Md Abdul Nasir and Thoubal DC and SP.
Speaking to the media in front of CM's Secretariat, JAC convenor Md Habibullah said that they decided to claim the bodies and drop all forms of agitation after they received positive response from the Government on their demands.
Saying that the Government has agreed to give an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the five persons who died in the firing and Rs two lakh each to the three seriously injured persons, he added that the Government will also provide Rs one lakh each to the 11 persons who sustained minor injuries.
Md Habibullah also said that the Government has agreed to provide Government jobs in Home Guard, VDF or Grade IV posts to the next of kin of the five deceased.
Saying that their demand to investigate the Lilong firing incident by an officer of the rank of IG has been accepted by the Government, the JAC convenor continued that three police officers of Lilong police station (Officer-in-charge and two Sub Inspectors) will be transferred for alleged negligence of duty.
The Government has agreed to station/attach a police officer of SDPO/DSP rank at Lilong police station in view of the sensitivity at Lilong area, he added.
