Gunfight at Kuki village, mortar shell found at Koutruk

Imphal, January 03 2024:
Shots were exchanged between suspected Kuki armed groups at Bijang Kuki village under Keithelmanbi police station, on Wednesday.
According to reports received here, the gunfight occurred from around 2:30 pm between two unknown groups.
However, the gunfight ceased after a few rounds of firing.
There is no report of any casualty during the incident.
Meanwhile, a mortar shell suspected to be fired by Kuki militants was found at Koutruk Ching Leikai under Lamsang police station, on Wednesday.
According to police report, the live mortar shell was spotted by villagers around 2:30 pm.
Soon after the report was received, a team of Imphal West district police cordoned off the area to prevent occurrence of unwanted incident.
The shell still lying at the spot under the watchful eye of the police team till the time of filing this report.
On the other-hand, combined team of state and central forces conducted search operations in different parts of the state on Wednesday, but no arrest was made or arms and ammunition recovered.
According to police report, Imphal East district police conducted search operation at Itam Nungoi village under Lamlai police station from 6am to 8 am on Wednesday.
The team searched total of 35 houses and conducted verification of 40 persons.
However, no arrest were made and no arm and ammunition recovered during the operation.
A combined team of Imphal West district police, E/216 CRPF, D/136 CRPF, F/184 CRPF and 7th MR also conducted search operation from 5:30 am till 9 am at Kadang-band Part I and II, Koutruk and Bomcha hill.
Altogether, 250 houses were searched and 360 people verified during the search operation.
No arrest and recovery of arms has been reported.
