One more succumbs; JAC, Govt sign pact

A person who got injured in the firing incident at Lilong Chingjao on January 1 and had been undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning taking the death toll to five.
However, JAC formed in connection with the incident and the government reached at an understanding and suspended all forms of agitations.
In all, 10 people injured in the firing incident were being treated at Raj Medicity out of which one succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Qasim Ali alias Amuthi Makakmayum (35) son of late Md Zalaluddin alias Yaima of Lilong Dolaithabi.
The body has been kept at JNIMS morgue for conducting the post mortem.
He was a driver and the sole breadwinner of his family.
Sources also informed that Qasim Ali was an active member of Anjuman Manipur, an organisation spearheading a campaign against anti-social activities in Lilong area.
On Tuesday, the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), a political wing of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) claimed responsibility for the firing incident and said the outfit has initiated an internal enquiry into the incident.
The other four deceased persons were Md Sirajuddin Makakmayum (55), son of late Reihaiuddin; Md Azad Khan alias Apikpa (35), son of Md Noorjaman Makakmayum; Md Dawood Khan Phundreimayum (33), son of late Zalaluddin; and Md Hussain Makakmayum (25) son of late Md Habibur Rahman, all from Lilong Chingjao.
In connection with the incident, the JAC representatives met chief minister N Biren, MP (RS) Leisemba Sanajaoba, works minister k Govindas and Lilong MLA Abdul Nasir at the CM's bungalow here on Wednesday.
After an understanding was arrived at between JAC and the government at the meeting, the JAC suspended their agitations.
Speaking to media persons after meeting the CM, convenor Md Habibullah informed that the JAC came to an understanding with CM on several points.
An MoU was also signed with the CM assuring to constitute a Special Investigation Team led by an IGP-ranked officer to ensure justice; provide government jobs to the immediate family members of the five deceased persons, as well as to the three individuals who sustained serious injuries; provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to families of the victims, Rs 2 lakh to those who suffered serious injuries and Rs 1 lakh to persons with minor injuries; assign a police officer not below the rank of SDPO to Lilong Police Station; and set up a permanent outpost at Imphal barrage adjoining Lilong and Oinam Samurou area, he informed.
As an understanding has been brought about, the final rites of the five deceased persons will be held on Thursday at Lilong Ching jao after claiming the body, the convenor stated, while lauding CM and his council of ministers for preventing further unwanted incidents.
Urging all concerned not to commit such unhuman acts in future, he called for harmonious co-existence.
