Karkinos Healthcare Manipur gives new lease of life to woman suffering from Ovarian Cancer

Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre, Imphal, has performed a one of its kind Interval Cytoreduction Surgery and successfully treated a 56-year old woman suffering from Ovarian Cancer.
According to a release issued by Karkinos, this path-breaking surgery gave a new lease of life to the patient Keisham Ongbi Tampakleima Devi, a resident of Imphal West.
The critical and life saving surgery was performed by a skilled team of doctors led by Dr (Prof) Y Indibor Singh, Head of Department, Radiation Department, Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre with the help of advanced technology and state of the art equipment at the Centre.
The successful surgery and treatment module has created a new ray of hope for patients suffering from similar types of life-threatening Cancer in Manipur and other States of the North-East Region.
Notably, Interval Cytoreduction Surgery is a secondary level of surgery which is performed either after an unsuccessful initial attempt of cytoreduction surgery or a patient who had never been considered for cytoreduction surgery initially.
All the visible part of tumor or cancerous tumor is removed in the Interval Cytoreduction Surgery.
The woman was suffering from a lump and back pain.
She went to a local private hospital and visited a Gynecologist, who noticed cancerous symptoms and asked her to consult an Oncologist.
Through her local friends and family, she came to know about Karkinos Healthcare Manipur located in Imphal.
She visited Dr (Prof) Y Indibor Singh for her diagnosis and treatment.
Dr Singh, who is an experienced doctor in handling these types of challenges, first decided to reduce the anxiety and fear psychosis of the patient while sharing the detailed information as much required by the patient to know about her condition after thorough examination.
It took around 10 days to diagnose her Ovarian Cancer and start the treatment.
Keisham Ongbi Tampakleima Devi's condition is improving and she is now returning to her normal day to day life.
She is currently going through Adjuvant Chemotherapy, which generally takes place after the first line of treatment (surgery) .
