Detained Meetei driver handed over to police

Imphal, January 03 2024:
A Meetei driver engaged for transportation of Border Security Force (BSF) troopers to Serou was briefly detained by Kuki volunteers after driving into the wrong direction and landing up at T Lailouphai Kuki village in Churachandpur district on Wednesday.
Later, the driver was released and handed over to police after BSF and Assam Rifles got in touch with the village leaders.
The driver has been identified as Konthoujam Dingku (28) s/o Konthoujam Ibo of Thiyam Konjil, Imphal East district.
According to a police report, Dingku is a driver, engaged to transport BSF personnel from one place to another.
On Friday, he left Bishnupur in a Bolero (MN01G 5212) to drive some BSF personnel to the BSF headquarters at Serou Practical High School, Kakching district.
However, they took a wrong route and ended up at T Lailouphai Kuki village in Churachandpur district.
The Kuki volunteers at the location surrounded the vehicle and detained Dingku.
After BSF and AR talked with the village leaders, Dingku was released around 4 pm.
Churachandpur district police then handed him and the vehicle to Bishnupur district police at Chandan Pokpi village in Kakching district.
Meanwhile, a large number of Kuki volunteers attacked and destroyed the house of the chief of T Lailouphai Kuki village for releasing a detained Meetei driver.
