Seminar on environmental awareness held

Mangailak Development Mission Society (MDMS) held a seminar on environmental awareness, sponsored by the North Eastern Council, at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong on Saturday.
As chief guest of the seminar, Tamenglong SDO Meidinbui Dichingta emphasised the importance of preserving forests for clean air, rainfall, soil erosion, water infiltration, and food sources.
He urged the public to prevent pollution and protect the environment at all costs.
Resource person Joel Gangmei, range forest officer Tamenglong Forest Division, spoke on 'Shifting Cultivation and Wildlife Protection Act 1972' and its relevance to Tamenglong district.
He encouraged shifting Jhum cultivation to terrace cultivation and planting fruit trees.
The seminar also highlighted the environmental impacts of deforestation and the need to protect Amur Falcons, which are being protected by the forest department.
Notably, district magistrates of Tamenglong and Noney had issued notices, prohibiting hunting, catching, killing, or selling Amur Falcons.
Violation of the magisterial order may result in imprisonment for 3 years and a fine of Rs 25,000 .
