Fire destroys banana farms in Senapati

Senapati, March 20 2025:
Unknown individuals set fire to the forest in Makuilongdi Part-3, belonging to the Inpui tribe, on March 15, resulting in extensive damage and financial losses for local farmers.
According to Makuilongdi Part-3 village secretary Achun Inkah, the fire destroyed 12 banana farms, which are the primary source of livelihood for the locals.
The damage caused is estimated around Rs 26 lakh.
Though there were no human casualties, the destruction severely impacted the farmers' livelihoods.

Meanwhile, local authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack, even as villagers urged the government to compensate the affected farmers, offer subsidies and assist farmers in recovering the losses.
The villagers also urged the government to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, including enhanced security and surveillance on agricultural land.
Even as local organisations and authorities are coordinating relief efforts to support the affected farmers, the villagers appealed to all concerned to come forward with any information that may.
