Imphal, March 20 2025:
Manipur Technical University (MTU) has taken a significant step towards creating a safer and more resilient campus by inaugurating the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Disaster Management Cell on Thursday.
The event was presided over by MTU registrar Ramananda Nongmeikapam.
The ICC, headed by Dr Moirangthem Roshini, includes two faculty members, two staffmembers, an external NGO representative, and three student representatives.
The committee's establishment was marked by an awareness programme featuring Meihoubam Rakesh, director Human Rights Law Network, who spoke on the legal aspects of preventing sexual harassment as Prof Robita Sorokhaibam, presiding officer ICC Manipur University, emphasised the importance of such committees in educational institutions.
MTU also launched its Disaster Management Cell, with Kosygin Leishangthem, assistant professor in civil engineering, as the coordinator.
The cell will focus on disaster risk reduction education, training, and research, particularly relevant given Manipur's vulnerability to natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and landslides.
