One dies in hit-and-run case, JAC formed

Thoubal, March 20 2025: In a hit-and-run incident, an individual riding a two-wheeler was fatally struck by a four-wheeled vehicle around 8 pm Wednesday at Uchiwa Thambal Khong Houbi.

The deceased has been identified as Asem Maimu Singh (51) s/o late Asem Iboton Singh and Asem Chaobihal Devi of Thoubal Leishangthem Wangmataba.

The incident occurred when Maimu was returning home from Yangdong after dropping off his daughter for a wedding ceremony.

He died at the spot.

The OC of Mayang Imphal police station, along with a forensic science team from the Manipur Police, arrived at the location and began investigation.

An FIR has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.

The body has been deposited at RIMS mortuary for the post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the incident, with T Momocha as the convenor.

The JAC has decided not to claim the body until the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run and its owner are identified and rounded up.
