According to Lions Club of Imphal Excellence president Dr Ibomcha Thokchom, the number of diabetes cases in the state is at an all-time high.
He explained that diabetes can be categorised into Type I and II with the first usually diagnosed from a young age, characterised by absence of insulin; while Type-II diabetes is diagnosed in adults, characterised by rise in blood sugar levels.
If the disease is detected and treated early, it could help save the lives of patients by preventing organ failure and other risks associated with the disease, he said and also informed that diabetes can be prevented or kept under control by maintaining proper weight, taking requisite medicines prescribed by experts and taking insulin dosage.
The first body part to be affected due to diabetes is the eyes.
