Foundation laid for healthcare projects in state

Imphal, January 12 2024:
Union Health minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday virtually laid the foundation stone for over 80 units of health infrastructure to be constructed in seven north-eastern states including 11 in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) and Emergency Covid Response Plan (ECRP)-2 .
Along with laying the foundation stones, the Union Health minister also inaugurated and dedicated projects to the nation, including five projects in Manipur, cumulatively totalling Rs 32.72 crore.
The projects inaugurated for the state included - Ayushman Arogya units at Langathel in Thoubal, Ningombam in Imphal West, Khurai Sajor Leikai in Imphal East, Wangoo Ahallup in Bishnupur and Nungoo Chaireng in Kakching district.
The projects dedicated to the nation are Critical Care Block in JNIMS, Integrated Public Health Laboratory (IPHL) at sub-district hospital Pherzawl, IPHL Moreh and IPHL Jiribam district hospital.
Projects for which foundation stones were laid are IPHL Tamenglong district hospital and IPHL district hospital Kamjong.
The function was also organised in the state at JNIMS auditorium online with participation of officials of the health department led by health director Dr Shasheekumar Mangang, JNIMS director Dr L Deben, NHM state mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam, family welfare director Dr L Tomcha Khuman, JNIMS medical superintendent Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh, and health and family welfare engineering cell chief engineer T Rabindrakumar as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, union health minister Dr Mandaviya conveyed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government of India started paying special emphasis to the north eastern states to facilitate the region develop in all spheres and converted the Look East Policy to Act East Policy.
Under this policy a number of projects and schemes have been taken up and as part of it, 85 projects have been inaugurated and foundation stones laid.
None had thought that such projects would be taken up in the north east, but PM Narendra Modi has successfully launched the projects in his time, the minister said, while adding that under the leadership of PM Modi, he took the initiative of going to the farthest village and starting development works including health, education and connectivity.
If we talk about health services, by developing institutions like RIMS, RIPANS, NEIGRIHMS and AIIMS Guwahati, opportunities for education, health and employment are being created here, for which earlier people used to migrate from these areas, he added.
He also applauded Assam for preparing a grid of Cancer Treatment Centres with the help of Tata Memorial Institute along with 14 other cancer institutes, due to which the entire North East is benefitting immensely.
According to NHM mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam, there are three Critical Care Blocks in Manipur of which one is under construction at JNIMS and the other two are in tender process.
The state will be in a position to tackle communicable diseases such as Covid when construction of the Critical Care Blocks is completed.
