Committee to protest sluggish road project

Senapati, January 12 2024:
Enraged by the 21 -year delay in completing the Senapati-Phaibung road project, the Senapati-Phaibung Road Development Committee decided to stage a rally to put pressure on the authorities concerned to complete the project, following an emergency meeting held at TNK, Senapati Village Authority Hall, on Thursday.
After much deliberation on the Senapati-Phaibung road project and negligence by the work agency and the state government, the meeting unanimously agreed to take out a rally at Senapati district headquarters against authorities concerned for neglecting and failing to complete the 128 km long road project at an estimated amount of Rs 167.73 crore.
The meeting also resolved to submit a memorandum to the union and state ministers concerned through the office of deputy commissioner, Senapati.
The committee also agreed to file an RTI against the non-implementation of compensatory afforestation programme along the Senapati-Phaibung road affected villages.
The meeting then resolved that the whole stretch of the road (128 km) should be completed within this calendar year-2024 .
The committee also discussed the road's inauguration and handover after consultation with the DoNER Ministry for necessary arrangement.
The meeting was attended by village heads, chairmen, and secretaries from 18 different communities residing along the stretch of road in question.
