A joint action committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the brutal murder of the three individuals who went to collect firewood at Haotak Mapallok Chakpi Ching in Bishnupur district on January 10 .
Notably, the whereabouts of one individual still remains untraceable who went with the above deceased persons.
The JAC was formed during a public meeting for the residents of Terakhong GP convened today at Terakhong Makha Leikai Community Hall and a number of resolutions were also adopted in relation to the unfortunate incident.
Addressing media persons after the public meeting, JAC convenor Khangembam Krishnagopal declared that the bodies of the three individuals will not be claimed until the whereabouts of the missing person is not traced.
Strongly condemning the murder of the three civilians in the strongest terms, he urged the Government to nab the perpetrators involved in the gruesome murder at the earliest and award stringent punishments as per law.
In the wake of the brutal murder of the three unarmed civilians who went to collect firewood for their livelihood amid the presence of Central Security forces in the area, the JAC demanded the withdrawal of these forces and replace them with State forces.
Further the JAC urged the authorities concerned to hand over the authority of Unified Command to the State Government who are well aware of the situation of the State.
Raising serious concerns on the relentless attacks of the Kuki militants upon the Meitei civilians especially at the periphery and remote areas, the JAC urged the Government to take up immediate measures to resolve the crisis in the State and pave the way for restoration of peace and normalcy.
Meanwhile, the Meetei Community Joint Co-ordination Committee and its Women Wing strongly condemned the incident and appealed to all to extend all forms of possible support to the bereaved family members.
