AITUC delegation, others call on Governor

Imphal, January 12 2024:
A delegation of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur led by its general secretary L Sotinkumar Singh along with five other members called on the Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and apprised her of the prevailing situation along the national highways in the State.
According to a release issued by PRO Raj Bhavan, the delegation informed the Governor about the insecure environment in the national highways that transporters, drivers, helpers and the people have been facing for the last many years and especially during the present unrest the situation has worsened.
They claimed that extortion, looting, abduction and killings by miscreants and UGs are a common phenomenon and prices of commodities have skyrocketed due to these factors.
Advocating the need for establishment of a dedicated force, they asserted that a Highway Protection Force is the only hope for safeguarding the national highways and therefore necessary steps should be initiated to establish the Force at the earliest.
The team also submitted a representation to the Governor and requested her to inform the Prime Minister and Home Minister in this regard.
While giving a patient hearing to their demands, the Governor said that this is a genuine problem and the State & Central Governments have been trying to restore peace and normalcy so that people from all walks of life can live in a peaceful environment.
She mentioned that issues of extortion, looting, abduction especially along the national highways have been discussed with the Security Advisor, Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister and the Government will take necessary steps to control all forms of disturbance.
The Governor assured the delegation that she will apprise the issue to the Prime Minister and Home Minister and asked them to meet with the Security Advisor.
Moreover, MH Khan, Additional Chief Secretary along with two officers also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan today and apprised her about the current status of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in the State.
They also discussed the activities taken up under the ADCs.
The Governor informed the officers that she will visit the hill districts in the month of February.
Arjuna Awardee Naorem Roshibina Devi (Wushu) along with her coach and parents also met the Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening.
Congratulating Roshibina on her achievements and the honour she received, the Governor wished her a grand success in her future career, bringing laurels for the State and the Nation as a whole.
The Governor also thanked her coach and parents for their support to Roshibina and announced to extend a sum of Rs 1,00,000 to Roshibina Devi.
