AR organises tribute event, interaction programme

Imphal, July 29 2025: Assam Rifles on Tuesday held a dignified wreath laying ceremony to honour the courageous soldiers who gave their lives for the nation's security during a complex search operation at Sajik Tampak on July 29, 2020 .

According to PRO IGAR (S), the ceremony paid homage to the valour and ultimate sacrifice of havildar Pranay Kalita, and riflemen Ratan Salam and Methna Konyak, whose exceptional bravery averted greater tragedy on that fateful day.

The PRO recalled that the operation at Sajik Tampak was launched to neutralise insurgent threats and sanitise the area.

While returning from their mission, the team-comprising a junior commissioned officer and 14 other ranks came under sudden attack around 6:30 pm with the insurgents using a remote-controlled improvised explosive device, followed by a heavy barrage of firepower including sophisticated assault rifles and lathode grenades.

Despite sustaining grievous injuries, Pranay Kalita, Ratan Salam and Methna Konyak responded with extraordinary composure and grit, forcing the insurgents to withdraw in haste, ultimately saving the lives of their comrades and underscoring the indomitable spirit of Assam Rifles, the PRO informed.

Attendees at the ceremony included senior officials and troops who gathered to remember the fallen, reflecting with pride on their courage, resolute duty and unwavering selflessness.

Wreaths were laid in a poignant act of remembrance, and tributes were paid with a guard of honour, reinforcing the values of sacrifice and dedication that remain the bedrock of India's security forces, the PRO informed.

Further, underscoring its commitment to the families of those who serve, Assam Rifles honoured the veer naris of Pranay Kalita, Ratan Salam and Methna Konyak with a heartfelt felicitation.

The recognition served as a reminder that the strength and sacrifices of military families are an inseparable part of the nation's collective resolve, the PRO added.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles organised a community outreach programme titled 'A Day with Company Commander' at T Khuangkhai, with the participation of around 90 students and faculty members from T Khuangkhai, Hengjol and Walkhu villages.

The event was designed to foster mutual trust, ignite the aspirations of young minds and reinforce the enduring bond between the security forces and local communities.

Participants were introduced to a curated display of operational weapons and equipment, accompanied by interactive demonstrations that detailed their functions.

The students displayed keen interest, engaging actively with the troops and raising thoughtful questions throughout the session.

A guided tour of the camp's essential facilities including the office area, study room and cookhouse further enriched the experience.

Informal conversations between students and troops offered candid insights into the values of military discipline, service and dedication.

The occasion concluded on a lively note with recreational games such aS musical chairs fostering camaraderie and teamwork among the participating youth, the PRO added.
