Kangpokpi, May 30 2026:
In a significant development amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has announced the suspension of the total shutdown across Kuki-Zo inhabited districts, citing positive assurances received from the Government during consecutive rounds of consultations held on May 29 and 30 .
The decision comes at a time of heightened tension and widespread public mobilisation over the killings of three Church leaders and the continued detention of 14 Kuki-Zo individuals.
Six Naga individuals taken hostages on May 13 have also not been released yet.
KIM and Joint Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations said the decision to suspend the shutdown was taken as a gesture of goodwill and cooperation to facilitate administrative processes and provide the Government an opportunity to act decisively on the grievances and security concerns of the Kuki-Zo people.
However, the organisation made it clear that the move should not be interpreted as a retreat from its demands or a weakening of its position.
"The lifting of the shutdown should not, under any circumstances, be misconstrued as a compromise of our rights or dilution of our demands," the statement asserted.
In a stern warning to authorities concerned, the apex body cautioned that any failure, delay, negligence or absence of visible action during the period of relaxation would compel the Kuki-Zo people to intensify their democratic agitations and shutdowns.
It further warned that the Government alone would bear responsibility for any consequences arising from inaction or failure to deliver justice and protect the rights and interests of the people.
