Boost to dairy farmers on the card

To help dairy farmers produce better calves with higher milk yield, the Veterinary & AH Services in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Manipur Centre is developing an Artificial Insemination (AI) mobile application app which will be launched and made publicly available at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at his office at Sanjenthong, Dr RK Khogendrajit Singh, Director, Veterinary & AH Services said that the Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Plant which is a key component in the AI method and operated by the Department at Porompat has started functioning from August 21 after restoration work.
Saying that the app aims to provide dairy farmers with easy access to AI services, he added that it will enable them to request technicians with just a click while also facilitating efficient management of frozen semen straws Notably, the premises of the Office of the Project Officer, ICDP where the plant is located was severely inundated for several days since May 29 .
According to the Director, the LN2 Plant is the only facility in the State that produces liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196° C which is essential for the long-term storage of frozen semen straws used in AI.
As distribution of LN2 has since resumed to all associated departments, agencies, organizations, and institutions, the Director appealed all concerned stakeholders and dairy farmers to make full use of the facility.
The Director went on to inform that the Department had requested M/s Stirling Cryogenics India Pvt Ltd, New Delhi (SCIPL) to depute a technical team to assess the situation and expedite restoration of the plant, after which it became fully operational on August 21.Regarding the AI mobile application, RK Khogendrajit maintained that it is currently 50% complete.

A meeting in this connection was held on August 27 with NIC, Manipur Centre at the Office chamber of the Secretary, Veterinary & AH Services, which resolved to launch the app and make it accessible to the public very soon, he said.
Separately, the Director awarded a sum of Rs 10,000 to Dr RD Samery, Veterinary Officer, Chandel, in recognition of her dedicated fieldwork, including vaccination drives (FMD, LSD, CSF, HS&BQ, PPR, ARV), animal treatment, awareness programmes and Artificial Insemination.
Her contributions in AI have significantly enhanced livestock productivity and advanced sustainable breeding practices in Chandel district, said the Director.
