Imphal, April 28 2026:
In a significant breakthrough against cross-border drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Imphal Zonal Unit seized 4.267 kg of heroin worth Rs 8.5 crore today from a remote area near Khuakual in Churachandpur district.
Two individuals involved in the trafficking were also arrested, said a press note.
Preliminary investigation has revealed the source of the contraband to be Haichin in Myanmar, while the intended destination was Churachandpur, Manipur.
The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police.
During the joint operation, one Gypsy and one Kenbo motorcycle were intercepted.
Upon conducting a thorough search, a total of 374 soap cases containing heroin and weighing approximately 4.267 kg, were recovered and seized.
The estimated international market value of the seized contraband is reported to be Rs 8.5 crore.
Additionally, two wireless communication sets were also recovered.
The accused used them for coordination purposes during transportation of the contraband items.
Further investigation in the case is underway to identify and apprehend other members of the network and to trace forward and backward linkages.
In recent times, multiple cases have been registered by NCB, leading to substantial seizures and arrests, thereby significantly impacting organized drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
In 2025, different types of drugs worth Rs 335 crore were seized in the State by NCB and in 2026, drugs worth Rs 75 crore have been seized till date.
Today's seizure highlights the persistent challenge of drug trafficking along the Indo-Myanmar border, which remains a vulnerable route exploited by transnational drug syndicates.
