Rehab centre shut for unethical practice

New Life Solution Rehabilitation Centre, a rehabilitation centre for drug users in Lilong has been shut down by the district administration, Thoubal for conducting unethical drives against drug users and violation of guidelines laid down by the Department of Social Welfare.
This move came after a case of alleged abduction and assault of a middle aged person from Lilong Arapti yesterday by authorities of New Life Solution Rehabilitation Centre emerged.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting was convened between the U-TRUST (Union of Treatment and Rehabilitation of Users for Social Transformation), ANJUMAN, Kanglei Panas and elders of Lilong area today, wherein several resolutions were taken for curbing crimes against drug users.
Detailing the resolutions taken during the meeting, a joint statement of the organisations said they welcome the "prompt action" of the Social Welfare Department and the district administration in closing the New Life Solution Rehabilitation Centre, and condemn the authorities of the centre " for misusing the names of ANJUMAN, Moulana and Kanglei Panas" .
The organisations urged the Department of Social Welfare to take similar stringent action against rehabilitation centres indulging in malpractices and human rights violations.
The New Life Solution Rehabilitation Centre, Lilong shall not be allowed to reopen or operate without the consent of U-TRUST, ANJUMAN and Kanglei Panas, read a resolution of the organisations.
Appropriate legal action will be initiated against any groups/organizations/rehab centres if they are found perpetrating crimes against drug users in the name of drug treatment in and around Lilong area, they said.
The organisations will work together in future to ensure healthy and ethical drug response, they added.
